The 40th  Annual World Series of Poker has started with 57 scheduled events to be played right through into July.  All the best poker players from across the world has gathered in Las Vegas trying to etch their names in WSOP history.  The feature event that every player dreams of winning is the $10,000 World championship event that will decide who will become the 2009 poker world champion.

 Event 1 - Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em

The first event to be held at the World Series of Poker 2009 was the Casino Employee’s event where a total of 866 players started out.  Andrew Cohen managed to take a chip lead onto the final table and kept his cool by winning the event.

Event 2 - $40,000 No Limit Hold’em

Event two was a special $40,000 buy in tournament put in place to as this was the 40th annual WSOP.  201 players started out in the first big event to be held with Vitaly Lunkin being the lucky player to collect the near $2 million dollar prize.

Event 3 - $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better

The first variation poker event attracted a record starting field of 918 players for this type of tournament.  Last year’s winner Thang Luu was back and amazingly won the event again in great style and proving to be an Omaha hi low expert as he finished in 2nd place in 2007..

Steve Sung outlasted a huge field in the first low buy in no limit hold’em event to take down the fourth WSOP bracelet.  He survived this fast actioned final table to battle through and take the top prize.

Jason Mercier took a huge chip lead right at the start of the event on day one and didn’t look back to win this event in dominant style.  This is his first WSOP bracelet to go with the two EPT titles he has already.
