WSOP Main Event Day 2A
Day 2A at the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event brought back 1,476 players, which were the survivors of both Day 1A and Day 1B to battle it out to make it to the third day. A couple of big names fell on the first level including Johnny Chan, Jennifer Tilly and Gus Hansen. Hansen was unlucky to go as he moved all in with a nut straight on the turn against his opponent with a set of three’s. The board paired up on the River sending Hansen out of the event.
As the day went on the eliminations picked up pace with Barry Greenstein, Tony G, and Phil Laak heading for the rail. Mike Matusow had a bad day eventually shoving his short stack with
only to find his opponent calling with pocket Kings. Matusow was followed out of the event by Alex Kravchenko, Todd Brunson, Gavin Smith and Amarilo Slim Preston.
When the day drew to a close Eric Cloutier took the chip lead when winning a big pot with pocket Aces when up against pocket Kings and ended the day on a healthy $383,500. Day 2A ended with just 648 players making it through to day three.

WSOP Main Event Day 2B
Day 2B started off with twice as many players as Day 2A with 2,924 all returning from Day’s 1C and 1D. There was a lot of bracelet winner in the crowd and six former main event champions including the current champ Peter Eastgate.
Some of the big names went out early on with last year’s player of the year Erick Lindgren going out when his pocket Queens were cracked by pocket Jacks when a Jack fell on the River. The other notable names to fall in the first level were Scotty Nguyen, Vanessa Rousso, Michael Mizrachi and Bill Chen.
As the day went on the big names to fall included Tom Dawn, Isabelle Mercier, Gavin Griffin, and Nenad Medic. Only 1,486 player made it through which was just over half the field when play was stopped after level four. Amir Lehavot was the clear overall chip leader on $610,500, Phil Ivey was the biggest name making it into the top 10.
