2,044 players returned to play the third day of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event. This is the first day where all competitors left in the event, were brought together into one field to battle it down to the bracelet.
The field contained many poker pro’s and former champions with Phil Hellmuth, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Carlos Mortensen, Chris Ferguson, Dan Harrington, Bobby Baldwin and the current champ Peter Eastgate all gunning for another shot at the biggest poker tournament in the world. There was a few well known celebrities left in the event with the likes of Shane Warne, Jordan Farmer, Jason Alexander, Lou Diamond Philips and Ian Scott.
Once the cards were in the air the familiar sound of the dealer shouting “All in and Call” could be heard across the Rio. Some of the early eliminations included Jennifer Harman, Roland de Wolfe, Erik Siedel, Eric Lynch and Brian Micon.
Two former champions Carlos Mortensen and Greg Raymer went mid way through the day. Raymer ran his pocket Tens into pocket Aces and received no help on the final board. The current WSOPe champion John Juanda fell soon after followed by Nam Le and Jerry Wong. Wong’s exit was significant as it propelled Bertrand Grospellier into the chip lead in a huge pot worth over 1 million in chips. but was easily beaten by Grospellier’s set of nines.
As the day drew to a close we saw Jason Alexander’s run in the event come to a halt when his pocket Jacks were cracked by his opponent hitting trip sixes holding

Just 789 players bagged there chips up at the end of the day all anticipating the bubble bursting on day four with the 648 cash places fast approaching. Grospellier was the only player in the field to have over 1 million in chips but wasn’t too far ahead of Ludovic Lacay in second place.
