Kreiner Wins His First WSOP Bracelet in Event 14

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 | Francis Lee

The Two day Seven Card Stud event, started on Saturday 8th June at the World Series of Poker 2007.  This was the 14th event in this series, and it cost entrants $1,500 to buy-in.  395 players started out in this event, fighting to get into the top 40 places for a share of the $539,175 prize pool.

When we eventually reached the final table on day two, Michael Leiner was leading the chip rankings ahead of a very strong table on £318,000 in chips, almost double of the amount his nearest rival had.  Barry Greenstein and Greg Raymer were in godo positions, looking to win this tournament.

Final Table Chip Rankings

  • 1st Michael Keiner $318,500
  • 2nd Barry Greenstein $177,500
  • 3rd Steve Sung $176,500
  • 4th Nesbitt Coburn $163,500
  • 5th Dave Phillips $137,000
  • 6th Greg “Fossilman” Raymer $116,500
  • 7th John Robertson $82,500
  • 8th Larry Eubanks $21,500

The chip leader Michael Keiner started off where he had lef off, knocking Larry Eubanks on only the second hand in.  Keiner’s full house was too strong for Eubanks with two pair, Eubanks out in 8th place won $11,053.

Then shortly after this Steve Sung won a huge three way pot eliminating John Robertson and crippling Greg “Fossilman” Raymer at the same time.  Sung hit a flush on the fifth Street going ahead of Raymer with a set of queens.  The flush was enough to win the pot eliminating Robertson in 7th place winning £15,097.

Greg Raymer was inevitably the next player to go out of the tournament, moving All In with his short stack against Barry Greenstein.  GreenStein eliminated Raymer with trip jacks, takng 6th place and winning $19,680.  A good performance from Raymer but unlucky to get caught against the flush a few hands ago when he had a good chip stack in front of him.

We lost our next three players in quick succession, first  Keiner taking out Dale Phillips extending his chip lead at the same time, then Nesbitt Coburn eliminating Barry Greenstein.  Phillips won $26,150 in 5th and Greenstein took $51,222 in 4th.  Nesbitt Corburn then took out his second opponent in a row, eliminating Steve Sung into 3rd place, catching up with Kriener in the chip rankings.

This extended session lasted until 8am the next morning until Kreiner finally ground Nesbitt down taking the tournament by the scruff of the neck.  An emotional Kriener won his very first WSOP braclet taking $146,987 in 1st place.
