The $1,000 buy-in Ladies only WSOP 2007  event started on June 10th lasting for three days, with the final table to be played out on the final day. Over 1,200 ladies entered this event making the biggest women only tournament ever held. The winner was set to get $262,077, with the rest of the prize pool shared down to 90th place.

Most of the well known female poker pro’s entered this event with some familiar faces seen across the card room floor, were seeing more and more women taking up poker as a proffesion as each year goes by.  When we reached the final table Frauke Ritter Von Sporschill was leading the final table chip rankings with $523,000 in chips.  Not too far behind Frauke was Mindy Trinidad on $444,000.  Julie Dang was on the short stack with only $48,000 in chips and needed to make a move to have a chance of going far in this tournament.

 Final Table Chip Standings:

  • 1st Frauke RitterVon Sporschill $523,000
  • 2nd Mindy Trinidad $444,000
  • 3rd Vanessa Selbst $354,000
  • 4th Katja Thater $340,000
  • 5th Sally Boyer $326,000
  • 6th Anne Heft $277,000
  • 7th Kathy Gliva $147,000
  • 8th Randi Calabro $110,000
  • 9th Julie Dang $48,000

On the first few hands on the final table, Julie Dang under pressure on the short stack moved All In pre Flop with :qd :jd Katja Thater re-raised this holding :ah :kh forcing all the other players to fold. The board came down :2s :10d :5c :ac :qh giving Thater a pair of Aces eliminating Dang in 9th place winning $14,628.

Shortly after we lost our next player Vanessa Selbst, All In with :ad :4d against Thater with pocket Sevens. Both players missed the board and Thater was on a roll eliminating her second opponent in a row and taking the chip lead at the same time. Selbst won $20,480 going out in 8th place.

Mindy Trinidad playing a loose game decided to push with :7c :6c All In under the gun. Randi Calabro was lying in wait on the button with :jc :jd and with no other callers it was heads up between the two. The pocket jacks held up with the board giving no help to Mindy eliminating her into 7th place.

Frauke Ritter Von Sporschill our early chip leader was the next player to head for the rail going out in 6th place. Frauke lost a huge pot running into Anne Heft with :jd :jh going All In with :ad :6h Neither player improved on there starting hand giving Heft the pot, knocking Fruake out in 6th place winning $37,448.

Katja Thater in a very good position in this event was unexpectedly the next player to leave the tournament. Thater went All In with :ah :10d and was called by the only player who had her chip stack covered Anne Heft with :as :qh The board came down :kd :2d :2s :9d :8s giving Heft the biggest pot of the night, putting her in the lead on a commanding chip stack, Thater won $49,151 for coming 5th place.

We lost our next two players in the quick sucsession, Kathleen Gliva was the first of these to go out in 4th place winning $70,216.  Moving All In with :ac :kc against Anne Boyer with pocket Fours.  The borad completely missed Gliva’s big slick knocking her out of the tournament.

Only two hands later Randi Calabro was eliminated holding :ad :qd against Anne Boyer with :6s :6c The Flop gave Boyer quad Sixes coming down :6d :2h :6h meaning Calabro was drawing dead on the final two cards. Calabro in her post match interview revealed that she had only just been sacked from her job for not going into work that day. The $106,177 third place prize will cheer her up a bit for sure.

Anne Boyer didn’t look back from this point onwards dominating heads up play, eventually winning the tournament. On the final hand Boyer didn’t look to be in a very good position All In with :kd :2s against Heft with :ks :10s Boyer hit a deuce on the River with the rest of the board all coming down low, giving Boyer the win and her very first WSOP bracelet.
