Event 32 of the World Series of Poker 2007 was a $2,000 buy in Seven Card Stud tournament. The event was scheduled to be played over two days but due to some delays in play this was extended so that the final table would be played out on the third day.213 players started out the event creating a total prize pool of $387,660 with 1st place set to collect just over $100,000 and the rest of the prize pool shared between the top 24 finishers.  The two players leading the final table chip rankings at the end of day two Daniel Negreanu and Jeff Lisandro were the spectators top choice to take down this event. Severin Walser was on the short stack with only $24,000 and needed to make an early impression to have a shot at the 1st place prize on offer.

Final Table Chip Standings:

  • 1st Jeffrey Lisandro $195,000
  • 2nd Daniel Negreanu $164,500
  • 3rd Nesbitt Coburn $150,000
  • 4th Greg Pappas $144,000
  • 5th Nick Frangos $90,500
  • 6th Farshad Cohen $75,500
  • 7th David Brody $46,000
  • 8th Severin Walser $24,000

The final table started very quickly with Daniel Negreanu eliminating the first player on only the 5th hand of play. Negreanu hit a straight on the River against Ben Cohen who only ended up with a pair of Queens knocking him out of the event in 8th place winning $8,916.

David Brody headed for the rail on the very next hand, beaten by Greg Pappas when All In on the 5th street. Pappas hit a straight on the 7th street leaving Brody’s pair of Eights beaten. Brody took home $12,405 in prize money for his 7th place finish.

Play slowed down from this point onwards and it wasn’t until hand 42 that Greg Pappas found himself on the wrong end of an elimination hand against Nesbitt Coburn. Again it was a straight that won the pot knocking Pappas out of the tournament in 6th place winning $16,282.

It was one of the two pre final table favourites Daniel Negreanu who went of the tournament in 5th place. Negreanu moved All In having a pair of Jacks after the first three cards but ran into Severin Walser holding trip Deuces. Negreanu didn’t improve on his Jacks and Wasler’s Trips was good enough to win the pot.

Not long after we were down to the last three players. Severin Walser was All In with two pairs Nines and Fives, up against Nick Frangos who started out with a better two pair Kings and Aces and eventually ended up hitting another Ace on the last card to give him a full house to take the pot.

Nesbitt Coburn was the next player to head for the rail, beaten by Nick Frangos holding two pair Eights and Threes. The two pair was good enough to take the pot with Nesbitt only ending up with a pair of fours.

Heads up play between Jeffrey Lisandro was a tight affair which lasted quite a long time. The event was all over when Lisandro had won some big pots eating into Frangos chip stack. Frangos was forced to make a stand going All In with two Jacks showing with only four cards out. Unfortunately for Frangos, Lisandro was sitting on two hidden Aces and hit a third Aces on the 5th street. Frangos didn’t improve on his Jacks giving Lisandro the event win taking home $118,426 for his first place finish along with the coveted WSOP bracelet.
