The $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Tournament, the 35th event in the Series at the WSOP 2007 attracted 2541 players entering the event. The casino floor was packed to the rafters meaning a lot of players had to play in the over spill tent which many people have complained about due to the heat conditions in these type of venue’s. This massive field created a total prize pool of $3,468,465 shared between the top 270 finishers. The winner of the event was set to collect over half a million dollars.
When we eventually narrowed the field to the final nine players, to battle out the final table to be played on the third day, Ryan Young was leading the field on 2.5 million in chips, almost 1 million more than his nearest rival Dustin Durkin on 1.6 million. Darren Glenn and Joe Holmes were the men under pressure on the short stacks and needed to make an early impression to get themselves back in the game.

Joe Holmes was the first player to head for the rail twenty hands into the final table. Holmes was beaten by Dustin Dirksen who hit quad Sevens on the Turn giving Holmes no chance of winning the pot. Holmes took home the $36,751 9th place prize for his trouble.
Darren Glenn the other player on the short stack was he next player to leave running into Nam Le with pocket Aces only having pocket fours. The board missed both players coming down
and Glenn was out in 8th place winning $46,806.
Only a few hands later the chip leader Ryan Young busted Raj Jain’s pocket Kings hitting a full house Sixes over Sevens. The last Six coming down on the River eliminating Jain out of the tournament in 7th place winning $62,048.
Paul Cheung went out in 6th place when holding pocket Fives against Nam Le with pocket Jacks. Le hit his set on the Flop leaving Cheung practically drawing dead on the last two cards needing both remaining Fives to save him. The Turn came down with a
confirming his exit in 6th place winning $79,743.
Just before the break Michael Trimby was knocked out of the event by Dustin Durkin, Durkin hit trip Kings on the Turn holding
with Trimby only having
and no piece of the board. Trimby out in 5th and collected $62,048 in prize money.
Only a few hands later John Esposito ran into Ryan Young holding pocket Aces having only
The Aces easily beat Durkins hand eliminating him out in 4th place winning $156,020.
Down to three players and Ryan Young had a commanding chip lead holding 5.2 million in chips compared to his closest rival Dustin Durkin on 1.4 million. Nam Le was on the shot stack with $870,000.
Dustin Durkin proceeded to knock Nam Le out of the tournament when his pocket Tens dominated le’s pocket Eights, and Le didn’t improve on his hand with the board coming down
It took Ryan Young around 50 hands to win through in the heads up showdown against Durkin, with the final hand coming when Young’s
beat Durkin’s
with the final board coming down
Ryan Young winning his first WSOP bracelet and taking home the $615,955 first place prize.
