The 40th event at the World Series of Poker 2007 was a $1,500 buy-in Mixed Hold’em tournament. 619 players started out the event creating total prize pool of $844,935 to be shared between the top 64 finishers. The format for this event was split between playing No Limit Hold’em and Limit Hold’em.
When we reached the end of the second days play the chip count was quite evenly spread between the 9 remaining players, with Christoph Niesert leading the field on $396,000 in chips. Karlo Lopez was on the short stack with only $58,000 in chips, half of what 8th placed Joe Brandenberg with $129,000.

On the very first hand of play Karlo Lopez went All In for his remaining $58,000 with
and was called by Michael Craig in the small blind holding pocket Jacks. The Flop came down
almost a perfect Flop for Lopez hitting top pair and having a nut flush draw. The
on the Turn changed the situation putting Craig in the lead, leaving Lopez needing a heart to come down on the last card. The
confirmed his exit from the tournament in 9th place winning $12,252.
Reza Zand was the next player to leave the tournament on the 13th hand of play. Going All In pre Flop with
against Kevin Marcotte with
Neither player had any piece of the board with it coming down
giving Marcotte the pot knocking Zend out in 8th place winning $16,899.
We had to wait a while before the next player headed for the rail which eventually came on the 46th hand of play. Michael Craig was on the short stack with only $83,000 in chips and moved them all into the middle pre flop with
Christoph Niesert called this bet in a dominating position holding
The A-Q was good enough to take the pot with the final board showing
eliminating Craig into 7th place winning $22,813.
Joe Brandenberg was the next player to go when pushing All In on the short stack holding

giving Goldberg two pairs Fives and Fours, which was good enough to win the pot knocking Brandenberg out in 6th place winning $30,418.
Then only a few hands later we saw Kevin Marcotte leave the event, loosing a big three way pot with two players All In pre Flop. Scott Bohlman started off the betting throwing in a $50,000 raise which was followed by Marcotte moving All In for $115,000. Rene Mouritsen then moved all of his remaining chip stack of $355,000 into the middle, and Bohlman calls showing pocket Queens. Mouritsen showed
and Marcotte wasn’t in a very good position showing
The board came down
giving Mouritsen the pot hitting a pair of Kings. Bohlman was crippled down to his last $60,000 whilst Kevin Marcotte headed to the rail to collect his $39,289 5th place prize.
It only took half a dozen hands before we were down to three players when Scott Bohlman decided to make a stand on his short stack holding

and this was good enough to win the pot with the final board coming down
Christoph Niesert the early chip leader was the next player to go shortly after, in a race with pocket Nines against Fred Goldberg with
Goldberg hit top pair with the first card coming out with an Ace and Niesert never recovered with the final board coming down
Niesert won $82,804 for his 3rd place finish.
Fred Goldberg started off heads up play with a good chip lead over Mouritsen and took just over 40 hands to win the event. The final hand came when Mouritsen moved All In after the Flop came down

He was quickly called by Goldberg holding a higher flush with
leaving Mouritsen needing a runner - runner straight flush draw to survive. The
on the Turn dashed these slim hopes handing Goldbrg the $205,935 and the WSOP bracelet for 1st place.
