Event 10 at the World Series of Poker attracted 388 players to buy in for the $2,500 Omaha and Sud hi/lo tournament, which always brings out a large number of pro’s including the likes of Todd Brunson, Greg Raymer, Mike Matusow and Michael Mirachi. The total prize pool generated by this field reached $970,000 with the top 40 players making the money.

Farzad Rouhani was prominent throughout day one and took the lead in the chip rankings by the end of day two. Michael Mirachi was also doing well in both days and entered the final table in 5th place on $231,000. Yueqi Zho the only player with less then $100,000 needed to start well with the blinds starting off pretty high.

Final Table Chip Rankings

  • 1st Farzad Rouhani $513,000
  • 2nd Greg Pappas $304,000
  • 3rd John Cernuto $285,000

  • 7th Daniel Mowczan $122,000
  • 8th Yueqi Zho $87,000

The play started slowly on this final table and it took a while for the first player to be eliminated. It was Michael “the grinder” Mirachi who was first to leave playing stud hi/lo Yueqi Zho who started off on the short stack won the hand with a pair of Sixes with Mirachi failing to hit his low hand on the seventh street.

When the game switched to omaha hi/lo Daniel Mowczan moved All In when the Flop came down :jh :7c :qc and had two callers in John Racener and Tom Chambers. Both players checked when the :jd fell on the Turn and Racener forced Chambers out betting after the River came down with the :10s Racener had hit a broadway straight holding :ad :ks :6h :2s which easily beat Mowczan with :as :4s :6c :5c

Another elimination came when the game switched back to stud hi/lo with Racner and chip leader Farzad Rouhani locking horns. Rouhani came out on top hitting a diamond flush when Racener only managed two pair.

The next two knockout hands came in quick succession when the game switched back to omaha hi/lo. Greg Pappas was first to go loosing against Tom Chambers hitting a flush. Then just a couple of hands later Rouhani was back in the thick of the action taking out Zhu hitting a set of Aces on the Flop with Zhu having just a pocket pair in his hand.

Shortly after this it was John Cernuto’s turn to fall victim to Rouhani in a three way pot. Rouhani opened the betting and both Chambers and Cernuto called to see the Flop fall :js :10h :7s Cernuto led out, Rouhani re rasied and Chambers got out of the way to leave them to battle it out between themselves. Cernuto moved All In after the :5h fell on the Turn and Rouhani called. Cernuto was leading holding :10d :7h :5c :3c having two pair but the :ks on the River completed Rouhani’s straight having :5s :9s :ac :qh

Rouhani took a big chip lead into the heads up showdown and made this tell after Chambers had started to come back at him. Rouhani finished off the event hitting quad Three’s after Chambers missed his low draw on the River. Rouhani picked up the $232,911 first place prize and his very first WSOP bracelet.
