Day 1c at the World Series of Poker 2008 main event attracted the biggest starting field so far, with 1928 players starting out. This means a total of 4383 players has participated so far with one more starting field to come. This field on the third day was an amateur heavy one with many of the players having qualified online or at the many live satellites that was played through out the WSOP.

The well known poker pro’s spotted in this field included former world champions Joe Hachem and Chris Moneymaker. Some others that was spotted taking there seats was Marco Traniello, Mike Sexton, J.T Cloutier, Minh Nguyen, Justin Bonomo, Huck Seed, David Sklansky, J.C Tran, Tony G, David Singer, John Juanda and Mike Matusow.

The Amazon card room was very quiet early on and this reflected in the tight play across the room. Shawn Buchanan was one of the first players out as his flopped set of sevens was beaten by his opponent having a set of Jacks. Huck Seed got all his chips in with :7h :9h having trip Sevens, only to find his opponent having :ad :7d with a higher kicker. Michael Gratz was unlucky to be eliminated as his :ks :qd was leading after pairing a King on the flop against :jc :kc but a Jack on the River sent him to an early bath.

As the first few rounds progressed we saw Scott Seiver head for the rail as he flopped two pair with :ac :10h and lost out to his opponent making a wheel straight with :5s :3h Recent WSOP 2008 bracelet winner Max Pescatori found his pocket Kings cracked against :3c :5c hitting two pair and Mike Sexton found his big slick out gunned by pocket Jacks.

Michael Martin took the chip lead, amassing $103,000 in chips just after the second break eliminating Dimitri Nobles in the process. Nobles paired an Ace on the Flop with :ac :kd but found Martin with a flopped set of Jacks. Kara Scott eliminated Justin Bonomo when she hit a flush on the River with Bonomo holding top pair. Marco Traniello was soon to follow as his pocket Kings failed to hold up against :jc :10d hitting two pair. As we approached the dinner break Bart Hansen found his two pair no good against a rivered flush.

When the cards were back in the air after the dinner break play loosed up some what with the short stacks getting busy. J.C Tran was one of these as he pushed the last of his chips with :ac :qs and lost out to pocket Jacks. Marcel Luske also went out having :ad :qc against pocket Sevens hitting no piece of the board. Anthony LeLouche pushed on a straight draw loosing out to a flush and Kirk Morrison’s flopped top pair ran into a flopped set of Jacks.

As the last two hour session got under way there was still 1227 still alive. A few of the big names went out in this last session. Tony G got his chips in on a flush draw but failed to hit against top pair. J.T Cloutier ran his top pair into pocket Aces and in one of the last hands of the day Nam Le failed to hit with :ks :qd against :ac :2c

The day ended with Henning Granstad in the chip lead with $228,000, the only player so far to break the 200k mark. David “bakes” Baker finished the day well amassing $180,000 in chips holding second spot. David Singer finished the day in 11th place with $128,000. The top ten chip rankings for day 1c was as follows.
