The sixth day of the World Series of Poker 2008 main event started off with 79 players and the day was scheduled to be played down until just 27 remained. Phil Hellmuth who had picked up a one orbit penalty at the end of day five, had this over turned as the punishment for his outburst was deemed too excessive.

The eliminations came at a steady pace once the cards were in the air with Bob Whalen finding his pocket Jacks no good against :2s :7s hitting two pair on the final board. He was followed shortly after by Matt Matros who’s :ah :7s failed to connect against pocket Three’s. Mark Wilds was out when his pocket Eights were dominated by pocket Nines, and Lisa Parson’s pocket Jacks ran into Owen Crowe’s pocket Aces.

As the first break approached Victor Ramdin got his chips in after the Flop when on a flush draw, against a Flopped set of Jacks. The board paired up on the Turn leaving Ramdin’s hand dead and buried. Thomas Keller got his short stack in soon after with :ks :qc and was favourite against :7h :6h This was until a Six came down on the Flop and Keller failed to improve.

When the break did come there was just 57 players left. In the next session we saw some of the big names fall. Jeremy Joseph took 57th place when his pocket Fives were bettered by pocket Jacks. Alex Outhred paired a King o the Flop holding the big slick only to find his opponent with a flopped set of Nines. Davis Saab decided to slow play pocket Aces, which back fired when Nikolay Losev hit trip Eights on the Flop holding :8h :6h The last elimination before the break belonged to Phil Hellmuth, as his :ah :qd failed to connect on the board against pocket Jacks.

Just nine players was eliminated by the dinner break which included Kido Phan and Jason Glass. Phan’s big slick was beaten by pocket jacks and Glass got his short stack in with :ad :6s loosing out to :kd :jd as a King fell on the Turn.

The last session was played at a slow pace and it took a while for the last nine players to be eliminated which would bring the close of play. Andrew Brokos :as :qs lost in a race against pocket Jacks. Clint Schafer got his last chips in with :kd :8d loosing out to :ac :qd as an Ace came down on the Flop. Mike Matuow was eliminated in 30th place, when his :ah :js was beaten by :ac :9c with the final board showing :ad :as :5h :9h :kc Cristian Dragomir went in 29th when he ran his pocket Tens into pocket Aces, and the days play was finally over when Nikolay Losev was knocked out in 28th place.

Denis Phillips finished off the day as chip leader with a huge $11.9 million chip stack, closely followed by Craig Marquis on $11.4 million. Tiffany Michelle the only female left in the tournament was in third place on $9.7 million. The official chip rankings at the close of play was as follows.
