full tilt FTOPS 4 main event

The final game of the FTOPS 4 series held at Full Tilt poker was played out last Sunday night giving one of the biggest guaranteed prize pool available online.  3798 people entered the event creating a total prize pool of $1,899,000 paying up to 522 places.

Five of the Full Tilt sponsered pro’s made money finishes, “The Great Dane” Gus Hansen the only player to have 3 WPT wins under his belt went out in 295th winning just over $1,000.  “EDOG” Erick Lindgren winner of Poker Millions 3, two WPT championship wins and WPT player of the year in 2004 exited in 228th place.  Lee Watkinson having one WSOP braclet to his name went in 198th place.  Paul Wolfe out in 179th and the best finising pro was “GambleAB” Aaron Bartley renowned to be one of the best online poker players around going in 82nd collecting just over $2,000.

When we eventually went through 3789 players to leave the final 9 people standing to contest the final table, it was John_Mclain holding the chip lead with $3.1 million in chips, far more than what the rest of the field was holding.  The table started very quickly with the dominating large stacked players starting to push the small stacks around raising pre flop stealing the blinds until one of them made a stand.

This person turned out to be SN8WMAN on the short stack, he pushed all in holding :ks :5d and was called by RastaAl holding :kh :8s the board came down :6s :9c :7h :ah :jh knocking SN8WMAN out in 9th taking home $25,445.

A couple of hands later it was RastaA1 going out of the tournament loosing to IdahoQueens.  Rasta all in pre flop with :6d :6s was called by Idaho with :ah :js No help to either player with the flop coming down :10h :2c :kd but the :qh and :jd gave Idaho the straight, Rasta taking home the $34,182 8th prize.

Just like the last hand the tables had turned on the winner of the previous knock out hand.  IdahoQueens  opened the betting holding :ah :10d unfortunately for Idaho he ran into KingDan23 holding :qh :qc the flop was even worse for Idaho giving Dan a set coming down :qd :2s :10c the :6s and :kh then follwed knocking Idaho out in 7th winning $43,677.

The fast paced table didn’t slow down with 6th place going to BoNeZee shortly after.  KingDan23 raised all in with :10d :10c and was called by BoNeZee holding the big slick :as :kh The board came down :9s :7d :4s :10h :6c giving Dan trips and a very healthy chip lead with five players to go.

KingDan23 made it a hat trick of knockouts calling an all in from the short stacked Amatos.  Amatos holding :js :5s wasn’t too far behind up against :kd :8c Neither player connected on the flop and turn showing :2h :9h :as :3s but the river came down with :8d topping up Dan’s chip stack eliminating Amatos in 5th place and $78,618

Four places left and at least a minimum guarantee of $100,000 to each player so it was all to play for, this in turn slowed down the play seeing all 4 players taking sizeable pots which evened out the chip stacks a little in the process.

But eventually it was Sicklol going out in a three way pot  against John_Mclaine17 and Kingdan23.  All players we all in pre flop, Sicklol holding :as :jh Kingdan23 had :kd :6h and Mclaine with :ad :kh The diamond flush on the board :qd :9d :4d :jd :6d gave Mclaine the nut flush and a huge pot to boost him up the chip rankings. Sickol on the other hand went home with a cool $104,824 for his trouble in 4th place.

John_McClaine17 gained the chip lead with some fortunate pots against both players taking down the pot’s on the river when behind.  McClaine and Dan’s big stack began to tell on CroqueMonsieur and he eventually went out in 3rd, holding :jh :9c against KingDan’s :as :6s the A on the turn ended Croque’s chances leaving Dan and McClaine to battle it out for 1st place.

Heads up play ended quite quickly with both players pushing for the win.  The chip lead swung from player to player but McClaine started to get the upper hand.

McClaine finally claimed victory holding :ad :7s against Dan’s :ac :jh Dan was looking in good shape until the flop gave McClaine top pair coming down :7c :2c :5c Dan needed help which didn’t come on either turn :qh or river :kh giving John_McClaine the win and top prize of $336,217.

Final standings:

  • 1st $336,217.95: John_McClane17
  • 2nd $203,193: KingDan23
  • 3rd $132,930: CroqueMonsieur
