weekend online poker tournament

It was a bad weekend for most of the online poker sites as the tournament traffic hit significant lows which called for the sites to put in overlays in order to make the guaranteed prizes.

This was probably as a result of the biggest poker event of the year starting on this Friday with the first of 55 events of the 2008 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and people either travelling or involved in non poker things in preparation for the start of the 6 week marathon of poker that is to come.

The only people who went away happy were the ones who won something at the table that was more than their buy in. PokerStars hit a particularly low note with only 6,745 entrants and Full Tilt Poker also had a rather shaky performance with a small number of 3,580 entrants forcing it to put some cash on the table to make up the guaranteed prize. Bodog which is no stranger to putting in an overlay as it does so almost every week also had a setback from last week’s number of entrants.

PokerStars Sunday Million

The PokerStars Sunday Million tournament dropped in the number of entrants by a significant figure. This was by far the lowest attendance for a long time as it only managed to pull in about 6,745 participants.

The guarantee was still no problem however as the overall pot came in well above at $1,349,000 and the final prize money was split between the top 3 players: rythman, tapatapa and KtheKing.

The deal was spilt three ways and was based on chip counts with tapatapa in the lead. Of the three, KtheKing was the first to go and was soon followed by tapatapa leaving the championship to a very lucky rythman. Rythman took in an extra $30,000 which as part of the deal was left on the table for the winner and took his winnings to a total sum of $137,254. However, although rythman won the game, it was tapatapa who took home the most, earning $139,736 due to his chip count at the time the deal was made.

The final results:

  1. 1. **rythman — $137,254
  2. 2. **tapatapa — $139,726
  3. 3. **KtheKing — $90,758
  4. 4. Hasuwisp — $56,658
  5. 5. EvilLondon. — $43,303
  6. 6. jojo1983 — $31,027
  7. 7. deepak1 — $22,259
  8. 8. jorgeezy — $13,490
  9. 9. browsef — $8,364

** A three way split was made at the final table between the top three players.

Full Tilt $750,000 Guaranteed

Even Full Tilt showed a fall this last weekend in comparison to the whopping success it enjoyed during the FTOPS tournament series that it hosted over the past few weeks. This Sunday’s bash saw a meagre amount of 3,580 players who sat down at the tables; this was a lowest it has seen since the beginning of April. Full Tilt had to add $34,000 into the prize pool to make its guaranteed prize pool.

The final results:

  1. 1. msmatrix — $132,788
  2. 2. Matt “mattyv” Vengrin — $80,250
  3. 3. stogyman — $52,500
  4. 4. SkyHammer85 — $41,400
  5. 5. Jess “JohnyCashOut” Newman — $31,050
  6. 6. Skalpell — $23,025
  7. 7. Markus OwnH — $17,250
  8. 8. Brian “SN8WMAN” Hawkins — $13,500
  9. 9. Babooyah — $10,050

Bodog $100,000 Guaranteed

Bodog also faced a drop in attendance with only 618 tournament players and had to fund an overlay of $38,200 which was more than 38% of the final pool.

Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin on the other hand was batting strong and added to a already impressive series of five wins at the final table of the Bodog $100,000-guaranteed tournament. There was no spilt and Baldwin took in $23,600 in winnings.

The final results:

  1. 1. Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin — $23,600
  2. 2. fin2win — $13,600
  3. 3. favre4prez — $9,100
  4. 4. rmobley65 — $7,000

  7. 7. gregums1 — $3,300
  8. 8. boulder ace — $2,200
  9. 9. PhillyGG — $1,300
