Weekend
Wednesday, April 2, 2008 | Adrian Milewski
It was “super Sunday” for poker players as the weekend saw three tournaments at Pokerstars, Full Tilt and Bodog which saw unprecedented turnout from players. Although Full Tilt Poker is yet to get to “full speed” after the March player downturn, it managed to recover a bit of lost ground.
The three tournaments overall were offering nearly $3million in total prize pools. Going by this week’s trend, it would be fair to say that we are in for even bigger participation and payouts in the coming weeks.
Pokerstars Sunday Million
It was good going for this week’s Pokerstars Sunday Million with a turnout of 1,869 entrants and prize money of $1,869,000 which was the $ 1,000 buy-in from each of the players. The first week of the month is always an increased buy-in to the normal $200 Sunday Million.
The event culminated in the three top players UH Big Tex, Governator and BrokenTPot deciding to deal based upon the Pokerstars chip count method, and just leaving the compulsory $30,000 for the eventual winner.
This ensured that all three of them would earn more than 200,000$ each and eventually they made $200,370 (BrokenTPot- third place), $237,200 (Governator – second place) and UH Big Tex edged out the others for the first place and a prize of $245,737.
BrokenTPot’s finish also catapulted him into the top three of the online ‘Player of the year’ race. He is in third place with 2,736 points. This is his current standing and the race is still on so he can still improve on this in future tournaments.
The final results:
- 1. **UH Big Tex — $245,737
- 2. **Governator — $237,200
- 3. **BrokenTPot — $200,370
- 4. dannyred99 — $106,533

- 7. quadducks — $44,295

** A three way deal was made between the top three places.

The Full Tilt guaranteed event this Sunday saw 3,818 entrants with a first prize of $135,000 for the winner. The turnout for the big Full Tilt Sunday event was notable after the lean period in March even though there were impressive turnouts during Jan and Feb.

The Bodog big Sunday event had its best night since early March. The tournament saw a turnout of 738 entrants up from 720 and 603 for the last two weeks. There was still good equity for the participants with Bodog still having to fund the overlay of $26,200 to match the $100,000 guarantee.
The final saw more frantic action than usual and it eventually came to a head-head encounter between Wicane and SoderKippa which resulted in Wicane ending up with all chips leaving SoderKippa in second place. Wicane earned $25,000 for his first place while SoderKippa made $14,300 for his efforts.
The final results:
