Online tournament roundup

This weekend saw some lucky hands and big prizes. The Pokerstars Sunday Million and the Bodog Poker Open hosted some action packed tournaments and although the fields for had thinned out a bit the tournaments still went on in full swing. Unfortunately, the big Full Tilt $750,000 tournament was cancelled this week which was a disappointment to many.

Pokerstars- Sunday Million

This week was a bit of a let down as the number of participants dropped by a few hundred to only 7,249 entrants. This was by far the lowest that Pokerstars has pulled in since February’s Super Bowl Sunday. The prize money had enough digits to make winning extremely desirable, with the total prize pool being worth $1,469,800, not to mention the $207,000 first-place prize.

The final table drew in some big guns of poker as usual who battled it out until Brian “tsarrast” Rast, tpir90036, and Kometen1 were the last three standing. Rast was the first to leave and he took $73,000 for his 3rd place finish. The remaining two players - tpir90036 and Kometen1 - put their heads together to decide on a possible deal and eventually split the pot evenly between themselves, each taking $140,799. As per the rules $30,000 was left on the table for the actual winner. Tpir90036 turned out to be the lucky one and took in an overall $170,799.

The final results:

  1. **tpir90036 — $170,799
  2. **Kometen1 — $140,799
  3. Brian “tsarrast” Rast — $73,490
  4. Gullars85 — $58,792
  5. JEUX D PLAGE — $44,094
  6. Vivek “psyduck101” Rajkumar — $32,336
  7. gabyhorowitz — $22,782
  8. NabtheAce — $13,228
  9. Allen “Reverse” Goldstein — $8,672

** - a two-way chop of the remaining money, with $30,000 going to the ultimate winner

Bodog Poker Open

Shawn “Phatcat” Luman was the big winner of the massive Bodog Poker Open main event, and took home an amazing $76,280!

At the Bodog Poker Open main event, there were 596 participants and an overlay of $25,000 from Bodog, making the $305,120 prize money the most ever offered in Bodog history.

Many of the stars of online poker were present, including Annette “Annette_15″ Obrestad, Eric “Rizen” Lynch, Thayer “Thay3r” Rasmussen, Marco “CrazyMarco Johnson, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner and Kevin “beLOWaBOVe” Saul.

The entire Bodog Poker Open series was a huge success with almost 2000 poker players taking part including Team Bodog members like Evelyn Ng and Josh Arieh.. The total prize pool for the six events was $679,970, of which Bodog contributed an additional $75,000 as guaranteed overlay filling the purse a bit more.

But it was Phatcat Luman who walked away with the huge jackpot at the main event and an Omega Speed Master watch worth more than $4000.

Luman is no stranger to big poker payouts. He came third in an event at the 2007 World Series of Poker, netting a cool $224,249, and second in the 2007 Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge, with prize money of $32,492. Shawn Luman’s current sliding PLB score is 5299.12, in the 99.90th percentile.

The other big winners in the Bodog Poker Main event were Michael “TheFinisher” Berra with $45,768 and Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby with $29,138. The main event coincided with Hamby’s birthday, but this skilful player had to be content with third place as Shawn defeated both him and Berra to win the top prize of $76,280 and become the first Bodog Poker Open main event Champion.

The final results:

  1. Shawn “phatcat” Luman — $76,280
  2. _TheFinisher_ — $45,768
  3. Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby — $29,138
  4. Stuart “Zpaceman” Taylor — $21,358

  6. flopmynuts33 — $13,730
  7. Anbessa — $10,679
  8. PSP_addict — $7,933
  9. Eeman2004 — $5,187
